Curvature That Leads to Pain and Dysfunction
A disorder of the penis’s connective tissue, Peyronie’s disease leads to penile curvature and deformity and can cause pain, erectile dysfunction and inability to have intercourse — a potentially devastating turn of events for a man and his partner. Fortunately, successful treatment is readily achievable.
DIAGNOSTICS TESTING
A Peyronie’s diagnosis typically stems from our review of a client’s history, as well as a physical exam. In some cases, however, we’ll use medication to induce an erection in order to assess the degree of penile deformity; advanced vascular testing with penile Doppler will determine the precise amount of blood supply to the penis as well.
Peyronie’s often exists in tandem with other sexual disorders such as erectile dysfunction and testosterone deficiency. We’ll perform extensive tests, when clinically indicated, to ascertain whether these are contributing to the problem.
TREATMENT
Treatment of Peyronie’s is highly specialized, based on factors that include severity of the disease, a client’s sexual goals and whether any other sexual conditions are in evidence. Several oral therapies, as well as intra-lesional injections, can be of help depending on a client’s condition, and should we determine the presence of coexisting sexual disorders, we’ll treat those aggressively as well. In some instances, Peyronie’s may not respond to non-surgical treatment; should surgery be necessary, our experts will pinpoint the correct procedure. Obsidian’s founders have extensive experience in surgical correction of both Peyronie’s and erectile dysfunction, though we typically refer such cases to our highly vetted colleagues.
